Asleep At the Wheel
Up-tempo song, living without God, and then with God, a desire to get ones life in order and speaks of having God directing a persons life. Conversion experience, vision, message from the Lord, Jesus says "I'll help you stay on the right road." I had been writing mostly from piano for a bunch of years, having stopped using guitar as much for writing. Then this year, 1996 decided to pick up the guitar again for writing. This is the first song I wrote in the newer series of worship, and sacred music using the guitar as much as the piano.

Asleep at the Wheel

Verse 1
I spent a lot of time, and a lot of energy
Trying to be all that I was, supposed to be
Looking for buried treasure, wasn’t what it seemed
I’ve got to meet the measure of my American dream
Got to buckle down, got to make ends meet
Keep my shulder to the wheel, fire at my feet
And then one day heavy was the load, when Jesus came to me
In a vision and he said,
Haven’t you, been listening to a thing you been told,
Why can’t you look at Me, why can’t you look at me, and he said,
PreChorus
Shh, come over here, listen carefully to what I say,
take it easy, take a breath, there’s a better way
Take my power, let me help you, carry that load,
I won’t let you fall asleep at the wheel, I’ll help you
Chorus
Stay, on the right road, I’ll help you
Stay, on the right road, I’ll help you
Stay, on the right road
Verse 2
My father before me, his before him.
Consumed by living, no time left to give
Storing up for winter started in the spring
I can not remember the song my momma used to sing
I’ve got to make the grade, fly in the face of fear
Just take it day by day and year by year.
And then one day heavy was the load, when Jesus came to me
In a vision and he said,
Haven’t you, been listening to a thing you been told,
Why can’t you look at Me, why can’t you look at me, and he said
